Pelican Eyes Resort & Spa

Pelican Eyes Resort & Spa is located on a hillside overlooking the bay in the charming fishing village of San Juan del Sur, on the stunning Pacific Coast of Nicaragua. Pelican Eyes offers a distinctive blend of gracious hospitality, local charm, unique architectural style and commitment to the community, all in a unique setting that blends harmoniously with the natural environment and local culture. It is the perfect setting for those looking for an exceptional experience.

Pelican Eyes Resort & Spa is divided in two phases connected by a system of brick stairways and a town road. It has 50 homes and hotel rooms with both ocean and garden views divided between. Additionally, the resort has three infinity pools, two restaurants offering Nicaraguan and international cuisine, a 41 foot sailboat with capacity for up to 20 people, spa services at Tranquila Day Spa.

Centrally located near many of the country’s most fascinating tourist destinations, San Juan del Sur is two and a half hours south of Managua, an hour and a half south of the historic colonial town of Granada, thirty minutes north of the Costa Rican border, and less than twenty minutes from the shores of Lake Nicaragua.

Downtown San Juan Del Sur is the definition of colorful. Painted shops and murals dot the streets. Beach-side restaurants and bars beckon. Characters sit on stoops and sip coffee in cafes. You may even see a parrot dancing on wrought-iron gate or a howler monkey out for a stroll.

Within distance of town waves crest and lift seasoned veterans and novices alike from May through early December – when the most south swells hit Nicaragua’s Pacific coast. The most popular and easily accessible surfing beach close to town is Playa Maderas – just a 20-minute excursion from Pelican Eyes Resort & Spa.

Flights to/from Managua Airport (MGA) are NOT included, but don't worry we will pick you up and drop you off at the airport. We are more than happy to help you find good flights; we have a few websites we recommend as well as some travel agencies to help you find the flight that works best for you.

Shared Rooms

You are welcome to share a room with your friends, or if you are traveling solo we will match you with someone totally awesome. A limited number of private rooms are available.

Solo Travel is Awesome

Traveling solo is an incredible way to make new friends. While you are always welcome to book a private room, sharing rooms can be cheaper and is so much more fun. We will take the time to match you with someone just as amazing as you. Be sure to check out videos from our past retreats and you'll see the great friendships that were formed. Making new friends is the best part of the adventure.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes, we request that all travelers purchase travel insurance. Travel insurance protects your investment in your trip and depending upon the plan you purchase; you can get coverage for trip cancellation, medical emergencies, and the loss or theft of your personal gear. We recommend  World Nomads and you can  visit their site to purchase insurance and get more information.  You can find World Nomads' Help Center here. You are welcome to purchase travel insurance through any company you desire.

We are lucky to be working with The Vital Action Project. Tim and his small crew have protected over 1000 nests and released almost 100,000 baby turtles, proving that even just a handful of people can make a big difference. They have also removed thousands of bags of trash and plastic from the coastline in Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Their work is tireless and we can't say enough good things about them. The work they do protecting the turtles and the environment is cruial.

During our time in Nicaragua we will meet with Tim and his crew and help out with turtle conservation. If the timing is right we may also see some baby turtles being released.
